Building a Snowman 堆雪人

Child: Mom, I think it stopped snowing.

宝宝：妈妈，雪好像停了。

Can we build a snowman?

咱们能堆雪人吗？

Mom: Yes, but be sure to dress warmly.

妈妈：能啊，但是一定要穿暖和点儿。

Child: Okay and Ill grab a carrot for the snowmans nose.

宝宝：好啊，我去拿胡萝卜当雪人的鼻子。

Mom: Well look in the garden for stones to use for his eyes

妈妈：咱们在花园里找点儿石头当他的眼睛，

and sticks to use for his arms.

树枝当他的胳膊。

Child: Ill look in the closet for a hat and scarf.

宝宝：我去柜子里找帽子和围巾。

I have everything we need.

Okay, how do I start building the snowman?

嗯，我怎么开始堆雪人呢？

Mom: First, you squeeze together some snow in your hands to form a small ball.

妈妈：首先，用手把雪攥一个小球。

Child: Like this?

宝宝：是这样吗？

Mom: Very good.

妈妈：很好。

Now, we roll that ball in the snow to make a bigger ball.

现在，咱们在雪里滚，做一个更大的球。

Be sure to rotate the ball every now and then.

If you dont, youll get a cylinder instead of a sphere.

Cylinder读作 [ˈsilindər]，sphere读作 [sfir]。

Child: The snowball grows so quickly.

Mom: Well need to make three snowballs:

a small one, a medium one and a large one.

Youre doing a great job.

Child: I think Im done.

Mom: Now lets make the snowmans face.

Child: Ill use two stones for his eyes, a carrot for his nose,

and three sticks for his smile.

Mom: Now you can help me stack the snowballs

妈妈：现在你可以帮我把雪球摞上了，

and then finish dressing the snowman.

The large snowball is the bottom,

大雪球在底下，

the medium one is the middle,

中的在中间，

and the small one is the head.

Child: Ill put sticks on the middle snowball for his arms.

Mom: Let me lift you up so you can put on the snowmans hat and scarf.

Child: My snowman looks great!

But my hands are cold.

Can we go inside and have hot cocoa?

Mom: In a moment.

Stand in front of that fluffy snow with your arms outstretched, like the letter T.

Now fall back into the snow.

Child: That was fun!

Mom: Keep your arms straight
