当你看到 break up 是不是只想到它只会被用来跟别人分手呢？其实不然，它是一个意义丰富的且可分的短语动词。

一、break up 后不加宾语，例如：

1、粉碎；破碎

The ship broke up on the rocks.

船触礁撞碎了。

The falling rocket broke up before it hit the ground.

坠落的火箭在落地前就解体了。

延申词义，某人变得虚弱；垮掉

He was breaking up under the strain.

过度的劳累使他快要垮了。

2、（婚姻）结束

Their marriage has broken up.

他们的婚姻已经破裂。

She had a string of lovers before her marriage finally broke up.

3、散开；解散

The meeting broke up at eleven oclock.
